Phantoms

The longings of the heart

phantoms and wraiths

ill-conceived; birthed in concupiscence.

The heart, a beautiful, fragile thing.

Leading one toward the Good

radiating the True.

Or leading you to a gaping maw, the Pit, where

death resides.

“Follow your own star,” they say.

What foul blasphemy spews from seemingly innocent heart.

Follow your star, the desire of your heart, no matter the cost.

Is this wisdom or deceit from the Pit?

Infidelity springs a joy that is fleeting–lasting but a moment

leading to drowning waters … pulling both to the deep, dark heavy depths.

Are not Francesca and Paolo the archetype?

Be warned when the heart leads toward darkness, despite the feeling of mirth.
